Colorado’s first Lawyering for Economic Justice Summit will be a one-day event, offering 7 CLE credits (2 ethics). It will bring together law students and legal practitioners from a range of practice areas that seek to advance economic equity and justice in Colorado.
We are very pleased to formally announce keynote speaker Justice Melissa Hart!
Background on Summit: While Colorado has experienced booming economic growth over the past several decades, that growth has disproportionately benefited the most wealthy and powerful. Far too many Coloradans live in poverty, and the vast majority don’t get a fair shake in the marketplace. People of color, immigrants, women, LGBTQ+, and people with disabilities suffer the most. These economic inequities have far-reaching consequences for individuals, our communities, and our democracy. Far too often lawyers are part of the problem; we need to work together to be part of the solution.
Purpose of Summit: Colorado’s first Lawyering for Economic Justice Summit will be a one-day event, offering CLE credits. It will bring together law students and legal practitioners from a range of practice areas that seek to advance economic equity and justice in Colorado. We hope to spark cross-pollination across practice areas as well as thoughtful consideration of how systemic challenges affect our clients in a variety of areas of law. In this way, we can develop strategies not only for better representing low- and moderate-income people, but also for helping communities to build power to level the playing field. This is the summit’s first year, but we hope that it will become an annual event, and a way for us to build a collaborative and intersectional infrastructure of lawyers and advocates attacking these problems in Colorado.
