Last week we had the excited news to share of updates to the gender-affirming care coverage available through Colorado Medicaid, also known as Health First Colorado, expanding the gender-affirming care services covered by Medicaid.
This week we heard the unexpected news break that Children’s Hospital decided to end their gender-affirming surgery services, and we were saddened and frustrated as a team. We understand that expanded access is meaningless without providers and access to services.
One Colorado proactively advocates year-round for our state to remain a safe place to access, receive and provide gender-affirming care. Attacks on the trans community are at an all time high, and we need Coloradans and healthcare providers to stand in solidarity with those seeking care. We are working closely with trans and LGB+ healthcare, legislative, and community leaders to take action and advocate for Children’s Hospital to reverse their decision.
While we are advocating as an organization, we need your voices too!
Take action: Call Children’s Patient Advocate Team
Make a 5 minute call to Children’s Hospital’s Children’s Patient Advocate Team.
Example:
“Hi my name is… I’m calling to say that I disagree with your recent decision to stop providing gender-affirming surgery. I believe gender-affirming care and surgery is necessary, life-saving care that your hospital must provide to Colorado’s LGBTQ+ young adults! Please reconsider so our state’s trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive youth can receive the care they need and deserve. Thank you.”
